Acting Classes

There are various acting classes being offered today including ones for film, ones for television, commercials and the theater, but probably not the one your mother referred to when sending you to your room until you learned how to act.

One of the many benefits of taking acting classes is in learning how to literally put you in someone else’s shoes while performing. To completely become immersed in another personality for the performance, while remaining the same person on the inside. Of course projection, diction and facial expression can all be taught in acting classes, but maintaining your individuality while acting the part of another is extremely important.

While the art of acting may date back to 5000 B.C., William Shakespeare’s plays brought it to the fore of people’s thoughts. Acting in a play requires more of a dedication to perfection as perhaps film as a play is performed in front of a live audience. While some people may be excellent actors, they may lack the ability to make up lines as they go if they forget the original dialog.

The New York Film School teaches all aspects and venues for acting but, as a few instructors explain, no amount of acting classes will teach people to adlib when they forget their lines. Whereas in film, forgetting a line may incense the director, but re-filming the line can cover the mistake.

Even many television shows are recorded in front of a live audience and although the audience sees the flubs, those watching the pre-recorded broadcast do not. Many acting classes for television teach the busy and hectic schedule actors live with daily. Classes usually involve six hours a day, six days a week with evening spent reading lines, rehearsals and shooting. Giving the students a first-hand look at the perceived glory that comes with being an actor.
