Art Lessons
Students love their art lessons. They get to exercise their creativity, interact with their classmates, and last but not least, make a mess! Foster their creativity even more with these ideas for fun art lessons.
Use your art lessons to teach students about famous artists and art history while expanding their own creativity by centering your lessons on well known artists. Devote a few weeks to studying Picasso, Jackson Pollack, Van Gogh, or any artist of your choice. Teach the class some age appropriate background about the painter’s life and style, and then have the class create a work of art in that same style.
Including some portraits in your art lessons will be lots of fun for your students. Instruct the students to create a portrait of them, and then have the students go off in pairs and create portraits of each other. For older students, discuss the difference between the self portraits and the portraits done by friends, and why those differences might exist.
Students of all ages will love to create collages. To give your art lessons more focus, have them create a collage based on a specific theme. Encourage students to bring in their own books, magazines, and newspapers to share with everyone, so there are a wide variety of materials available for the collage.
