Christian Education
"These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up" (Deut. 6:6-7, NIV)
This passage of Scripture was given to the children of Israel in the Old Testament. It instructs parents to teach their children in the ways of God. This scripture is not only the foundation for early Hebrew religious and educational models, but it is also the foundational scripture used for Christian education today.
The Christian who believes that it is their responsibility to ensure that their children receive a Christian education looks carefully at the method and mode of instruction used to provide instruction. In today’s society, many Christians do not agree with the method of instruction provided by public schools. Therefore, there are many Christian education facilities, private schools, and home schools that have opened their doors for education.
Because private Christian schools are not funded by tax dollars, there is an expense to sending your child to one of these schools. Some people prefer to put the task of education into their own hands and choose to home school their children. Home school laws and requirements vary from state to state, however home schooling has continued to rise and has proved to be a valid form of Christian education.
