Defensive Driving Classes
As the old phrase goes, “Everyone on the road is crazy except for you and me, and I’m not too sure about you.” This saying is used often during defensive driving classes as students are instructed to look ahead and plan for mistakes made by others.
Leaving an assured clear distance for stopping in an emergency is not just a law in most states, it’s a common sense practice taught in defensive driving classes. Although you may have time to stop before putting placing your front bumper in the trunk of the car in front you, the person behind you may not. Yes, it would be there fault, but there’s no reason for unnecessary hospitalization, even at someone else’s expense.
Unfortunately, to many drivers the right of way is more of a guideline than a rule. In addition, to those with an aggressive nature, they always have the right of way and unless you have experienced defensive driving classes you may fall victim to their aggression.
For example, if the car in front you is having trouble staying a straight course between the lines, they may be under the influence, tired or ill. The reason they are swerving isn’t as important as maintaining a safe distance. Many people may attempt to pass just to get away from them but defensive driving classes teach the conventional wisdom that they may serve into you while you’re passing, presenting an unnecessary danger to you and possibly others.
