Drivers Education

If you have a teenager in the house, chances are you eventually are going to hear about drivers education.  Driving a vehicle is the ultimate freedom to a teenager.  However, they have to earn that privilege by taking drivers education.  Many states require the completion of not only classroom curriculum but also practical driving instruction from a drivers education teacher in order to obtain a drivers license for the first time. In addition, a side benefit to a drivers education course is that you just might earn a discount on your car insurance for your policy when you add your teenager on.

The main purpose for a drivers education course is to teach fledgling drivers all about the various safety tips you can employ when driving.  In addition, when your teenager takes it, they should come away from the drivers education course with a heightened awareness of what to expect behind the wheel and even anticipating the behavior of other drivers.  The courses are designed to help them gain confidence and be a better defensive driver.

Another focus of drivers education courses is to offer a perspective on the different road hazards as well as the various driving methods that can be employed to help lessen the danger that might be encountered in such situations. There are even classes these days which offer “real life” simulations like a car going into a skid and the driver (your teenager) has to maneuver and exit the skid without possible injury.

Most high schools will offer the classroom portion of drivers education.  Sometimes, the course is a semester long and incorporated into the school curriculum and other times, it is an “extracurricular” class that is taken after school or on weekends.  Of course, with the internet these days, the classroom portion of drivers education can be completed via an online web class.  Students can download lectures and class notes to study for the written portion of the drivers education exam that must be passed before the driving portion is completed.

For grown-ups or people new to the country, there is also drivers education classes geared for them as well.  Whether it is to remove some points on a drivers license due to a driving violation or just to save some money on car insurance, drivers education is available.
