Guitar Lessons

The guitar is a fretted and stringed instrument that is popular in all types of music.  You will hear the guitar used in classical, blues, country, rock and other types of music.  While the guitar usually has six stings, there are guitars that have seven, eight, ten, eleven, twelve, and eighteen strings.

If you are thinking about learning how to play the guitar, you may be interested in guitar lessons.  There are many ways you can learn to play the guitar.  You can find online lessons, purchase a book, buy a video, or receive individual lessons from a guitar lesson teacher.  No matter which method you choose to use, you should have a guitar before you think about lessons.  You will need one even if you take guitar lessons from a teacher who can provide a guitar because you will want to be able to practice at home.

What will you learn when you take guitar lessons?  You will learn about octaves (naturals and non-naturals) and basic chords.  You will need to learn scales.  The pentatonic scales are five note scales that are easy, so therefore, a good introduction to scales.  This will include learning the five positions of pentatonic minor.  You will learn modal theory, which helps you understand how scales work.  Key construction will also be covered in guitar lessons. 

You will learn how to string your guitar as you will need to replace them occasionally.  You will also learn how to tune your guitar.  As you advance, you may learn about songwriting, melody, and solo writing.

People choose to take guitar lessons for many reasons.  Some have dreams of being a famous musician and some just want to learn because it can be relaxing and fun to play just for themselves.  Some parents like their children to take guitar lessons because it teaches them the importance of practice and they learn about discipline.
