Learn to Fly

Mankind has been fascinated with flight and the impossibility of it since the dawn of time. Watching birds fly for centuries caused individuals to look for a way for mankind to learn to fly. If you are interested in more information on learning to fly, there are several sources to consider.

Before you set your heart on learning to fly, check with your local airport and determine if anyone in your area offers flying lessons. The price of the lessons may be a big factor on whether or not you can learn to fly. Flight lessons can be expensive, but check around and see what types of lessons are out there and how much they are. Occasionally you may be able to find sources for financial aid to apply towards your flight school tuition, but it is not a given that you will receive any aid. However, a learner’s permit is usually valid for 24 months, so you have quite a while to learn what you need to learn and pass the required tests.

You will also need to decide what type of license you want to study for. There are basically two types of licenses you can receive if you learn to fly. The first license, a recreational pilot certificate, is fairly restrictive. You will only be able to travel 50 miles from your home airport and will not be able to fly at night. It takes fewer hours to receive a recreational pilot’s certificate, but there are more restrictions. A private pilot’s certificate is much less restrictive. You can carry passengers and are able to fly farther and in a wider range of conditions. Generally you have to be 16 years old before you will be allowed to fly solo in an airplane, and 17 before you can officially receive your pilot’s license.

If you decide to learn to fly, you will have to learn a lot of new information and develop an entirely new set of skills, but you will have a major accomplishment under your belt and conquered the skies in the process. Learning to fly may be one of the most exciting and rewarding achievements you can attain. If you start now, you could be flying sooner than you would think!
