Phonics Lesson Plans
The purpose behind phonics lesson plans is to teach students spelling and sound relationships. Once they know these relationships they can be used to read words. Your phonics lesson plans should be exact and systematic. It is very crucial that spelling and sound relationships are taught directly to the students. For instance, students should be told that the letter b stands for the /b/ sound. Your phonics lesson plans should first involve writing a letter on the chalkboard. Then pronounce the sound of the word clearly. Next, write words that all begin with that letter. Demonstrate to the children that all of the words that start with that letter sound the same. When done systematically in scope and sequence, children will learn how to form and read words. These skills should be reviewed over and over again.
Phonics lesson plans should give children awareness of letters by introducing sounds to letters and then proceeding to the sound and spelling relationships. Phonics should be continually reviewed. Having a good base in phonics will help children have the skills they need to blend words and spell words later.
