Physical Education Lesson Plans
Physical education is a more important part of children’s educations than ever, with childhood obesity and related health problems on the increase. But how do you convince the video game generation to stay interested in physical education? Include lots of fun games and activities into your physical education lesson plans and you may encourage lifetime of physical activity.
Include as much good natured, age appropriate competition in your physical education lesson plans as possible. If you want to increase your class’s aerobic endurance, but they don’t take kindly to the idea of simply running for the sake of it, let them run while playing a game of soccer or kickball, or hold a relay race. Reward the winning team by letting them vote on the next game the class plays. Devoting one day a month to playing a game of the class’s choosing in your physical education lesson plans may help keep them interested all the time.
For older students, consider giving each student the responsibility of leading the class warm-up exercises for a week. They will enjoy the chance to take on the role of teacher, and it a great way to teach kids about the importance of warming up and stretching to prevent injury.
Physical education might make the difference between a healthy adulthood and one plagued by illnesses for your class. Make your physical education lesson plans fun and exciting so your students develop habits they can use for a lifetime.
