Reading Comprehension Lesson Plans

It can be difficult to make out reading comprehension lesson plans. It seems that some children are more inclined than others to retain and understand what they read. There really is no set guide to go by that you can layout in reading comprehension lesson plans. A child’s ability to comprehend what they read will be largely based on what they bring to the table with them. This includes their reading capabilities and any prior knowledge they may have on the subject matter.

One thing you can add to your reading comprehension lesson plans that will help students learn about history and science is videos and activities. Watching videos and doing worksheets and activities can go far in helping a student understand a subject before reading is ever introduced on the subject. Having prior knowledge can greatly increase reading comprehension.

To help students comprehend their fiction readings have them make a set of bookmarks for each chapter in their book out of note cards or construction paper. After they finish a chapter in the book write down questions on the board which should be copied onto the book mark. Have the children write the answers to the questions. These bookmarks can be used to guide a child through writing a book report or giving an oral book report when the book is completed.

To be frank, reading comprehension lesson plans will probably have to be tailor made to fit the needs of your students. That is one reason that children are generally divided up into reading groups. This enables a teacher to have different reading comprehension lesson plans for their students.
