Reading Lesson Plans
Reading is a great way to gain knowledge on a variety of issues including current affairs, trivia, history and numerous other matters. Innovative reading lesson plans can help the students improve their vocabulary and reading fluency. Students could be asked to read certain books based on their interests on a regular basis. They could then present book reports on the theme of the book, characters in it and what they inferred from it. Alternatively, your reading lesson plans could include time for a small book talk on the reading assignment.
Another activity that could be incorporated in your reading lesson plans is story chains where paper strips with pieces of the story could be written down and then assembled together in the form of a chain on a storyboard or bulletin board. Many good resources for educators can provide you with ideas for reading lesson plans. These can be found online or in libraries or other places which help out educators.
Younger students might benefit from enactments of all-time classic children’s tales such as “Little Red Riding Hood” and “Jack and the Beanstalk”. Scripts for these are available online too. Various other works of literature have also been adapted into similar scripts for use by students and their teachers. Following some of these tips and hints is a good way of making sure your classes are educational, entertaining and enriching for both student and teacher. The eager faces of students at the start of each class should in itself be rewarding.
