What is Education?

What is education? Education is a learning process that is mainly provided by governments worldwide to teach varied skills, knowledge and information to different age groups.  Other forms of education can be found in the form of job training, or general life experiences.

What is education as taught by governments? This type of education exists in many forms in every country, some being more comprehensive than others, some having higher or lower standards than others, and some being unavailable to individuals, especially children in third world countries where either schools may not exist in their areas, feeding the family takes precedence over education, or where children are restricted due to social, cultural, economic or gender status from being educated.

In the Western world, every child is not only entitled an education from about ages 5 to 18, but is mandatory.  Governments, like that of the United States, funds, controls, administers and designs education methods and laws at national, state and local levels.

Education is provided through various learning institutions called schools/colleges/universities, whether on site/correspondence/online.  Early childhood education includes core subjects like science, reading, writing, math’s, art, music, history, geography, language arts, physical education and a second language.  These are expanded in the secondary/high school level to include variations of the core subjects.  For example, high school students can study biology, a science.

What is education’s benefit? Educations benefit is that all children are able to grow up and move into the adult world with the basic knowledge required to survive, work and advance themselves in careers and life.  Education helps children to discover their own abilities, talents, likes, dislikes, strengths and weaknesses, and the world around them.  It also helps them learn responsibility, independence, citizenship, strength of character, interaction skills, socialization, self-esteem, respect for themselves and others, the difference between right and wrong, and the skills needed for their future goals.  Education is a necessary part of every human beings life, expanding to include travel, socialization and employment.
